The Caribou Show is a locally-produced sketch comedy
television
show, which was recorded in the Sioux Falls
, South Dakota
area. The half-hour show was broadcast weekly on Sunday mornings at 12:30AM on KDLT.
The program's original title was Captain Caribou. Initially, the program started out with a spoof of the long running Captain Kangaroo
program, featuring Chuck Brennan as Captain Caribou.
Much of the show's comedy was often based on South Dakota
topics, such as the abortion
ban, gun control
, and home schooling. A number of sketches appeared on the show regularly, including Booby Boobenheimer, Harry Back, and Ag East of Salem. Other sketches were parodies
of well known television programs, such as Antiques Roadshow
. The show also lampooned local political figures, including Dave Munson
and Vernon Brown.
The Caribou Show was written and directed by the show's creator, Todd Magnuson. Much of the show was actually shot in Todd Magnuson's home. The cast included Terri Lawrenz, John "Barnie" Barnes, Chuck Brennan, Amanda Bumann, Dan Eisenhauer, Todd Magnuson, Bart Naasz, T-Roy Nelson, Scott Pearson, and Brian "Ring a Ding" Dingler. Model Terri Lawrenz is the most recent addition to the cast. The show is owned and copyrighted by Caribou Productions.
The Caribou Show was seen locally, and skits were updated on its website. Later, the show planned to expand to other markets.
The program's nearly seven year run ended with broadcast of the last episode on October 27, 2007. The show's successor was a spin-off from Caribou Productions called Out and About with Terri and Todd. This new program, based on the T n T segments from the Caribou Show, was broadcast on Saturdays at 10:00pm on KCPO. In 2008, Todd Magnuson and Terri Lawrenz started a high-definition educational programs called Nature Adventures, which appears on South Dakota Public Broadcasting
