History

The paper traces its roots to 1816. The paper has been named The Citizen for decades but was previously published as The Citizen-Advertiser and The Daily Advertiser, among other names.

Except on Sundays, when it was a morning paper, and Saturdays, on which the paper did not publish an edition, The Citizen was an afternoon paper until the 2000s. In recent years, The Citizen first added a Saturday edition and then switched from afternoon to morning publication seven days a week.
