 and has kept student informed for more than a century. It prints Monday through Friday during the fall and spring semesters and twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the summer semester. The Daily Reveille has a daily circulation of about 14,000 copies.

History

The earliest known issue of The Daily Reveille was published at Louisiana State University in 1887. The newspaper became a permanent part of campus on Jan. 14, 1897, after the first issue of the new Reveille hit stands. For at least a short while just after 1934, The Daily Reveille earned national journalistic recognition after then-Sen. Huey Long had seven staff members expelled for reporting on something he believed should not belong in "his" newspaper. The students now are commonly referred to as The Reveille Seven and include Carl McArn Corbin, Samual A. Montague, Stanley D. Shlosman, Cal Joseph Abraham, Jesse H. Cutrer Jr., L. Rea Godbold and David R. McGuire Jr.

The publication became The Daily Reveille in 1938, only to be forced back to semiweekly status during the Second World War. It resumed daily publication again in 1947 but dropped back to four issues a week in 1951 when the Korean War

 caused LSU enrollment to slump to just over 5,000 students. The Daily Reveille returned to five-day-a-week publication in 2002.

The Daily Reveille boasts many prestigious alumni including E.J. Ourso, for whom LSU's College of Business Administration is named, and Robert E. Pierre, a staff writer at The Washington Post. The Daily Reveille's history also includes stories that have had a great impact on LSU's campus, including a series of stories that resulted in the resignation of an LSU chancellor.

The Daily Reveille has begun to excel as a nationally recognized student publication. In 2003 the publication earned titles such as Best Newspaper on both state and regional levels. Its community focused efforts earned The Daily Reveille a 2003 Associated Collegiate Press National Pacemaker award, the highest award granted to student publications. Printing and Distribution

The Daily Reveille is printed by Signature Offset in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The paper is driven to campus and delivered every morning. The Daily Reveille is available at 86 locations on campus and in the near-surrounding area.

Stories, columns and other content from The Daily Reveille also appear at lsureveille.com, The Daily Reveille's web site. The student journalists who produce The Daily Reveille also use the Web site to update readers on breaking news during holidays and semester breaks when the paper is not being printed, or to get important news to readers as it happens.

Reveille Staff

The Daily Reveille, which is funded by advertising and student fees, employs more than 80 students each semester in jobs ranging from writing and editing to design and illustration. An editor is selected each semester by a board of professors, students, administrators and media professionals. The editor selects a supporting management staff who in turn hire writers, copy editors, designers, photographers and other staff members. To work for The Daily Reveille one must be a full-time student in good standing with the University. The entire staff consists of more than 100 students, many of whom major in mass communication. Several staff members of The Daily Reveille have been recognized for individual journalism awards including Hearst Awards, SPJ awards and Louisiana Press Association awards.
