Casting announcements began in January 2011. First to be cast was Kristen Johnston

, with Johnston playing Holly Brooks, a smart and sexy divorce attorny and the landlord, and Faison playing Phil Chase, a charming ladies man, who lives in the apartment. Next actor cast in the series was David Alan Basche
, who will play Stuart Gardner, a caring cosmetic dentist, who recently moves in with Faison and Knight's characters. Wayne Knight
was then cast in the role of Haskell Bing, a perpetual couch potato, living with Faison and Basche characters.
On March 21, 2011, the pilot was given a series order of ten episodes. The series premiered on November 30, 2011, and currently airs on Wednesday nights at 10:30 pm, following Hot in Cleveland
