Plot

Despite a ceasefire being called the fighting continues around the Aerok Hills on the eastern front as this will help determine the future dividing line of the North and the South. The hills continue to flop between the North and the South as even the ceasefire negotiators don't always know who controls it.

Amongst the fighting a South company commander is found dead by a Southern bullet. Lieutenant Kang Eun-Pyo of the Defense Security Command is sent to investigate the murder and a mole who mailed a letter from a Norther solder to his family in the South.

Things quickly change upon arriving on the eastern front. The current leader is on morphine (specifically alkaloids), some of the men are wearing Northern uniforms to keep warm and refer to their fallen friends as 'comrades,' war orphans live among the soldiers, and Eun-Pyo's old friend Kim Soo-hyeok is not only alive but has moved up in rank.

After the North has again retaken the hill the South take it back and Soo-hyeok joins them in battle. After the fighting as finished he sees the new recruit is drunk. Finding the alcohol leads him to discover a secret communication box buried within the hills that acts as a mail system and gift supply from one side to the other.

Seasons change as the winter turns to summer and the land continues to change sides. Secrets are held not only from from Soo-hyeok but amongst the seasoned fighters on both sides.
