The Indelicates are a Sussex-based English
indie rock
band. Formed in 2005 by Julia Clark-Lowes and Simon Clayton (under their stage names, Julia and Simon Indelicate), the band currently consists of Julia and Simon, Alastair Clayton, Ed van Beinum, Lily Rae
and Laurence Owen. They have released three albums - American Demo
(2008), released on Weekender Records
. Both its follow-up, Songs for Swinging Lovers
(2010), and the third album, David Koresh Superstar
(2011), were released on the band's own Corporate Records label.
. The Indelicates initially consisted solely of Julia and Simon Indelicate. Soon Ed van Beinum, Kate Newberry and Al Clayton were recruited to add to the band's live sound.
Their début single, We Hate the Kids, was released on Sad Gnome Records
in July 2006, receiving positive reviews in NME
, Rolling Stone
and New Statesman
. Their follow-up single, Julia, We Don't Live in the 60s, was released in July 2007 - their first to be widely distributed around the UK. The last single to precede the album release was Sixteen, released in October 2007.
Their début album, American Demo
, was released to the UK on Weekender Records
on 14 April 2008.
There have been official music videos made for The Indelicates' three single releases on Weekender Records, produced by Stuart Laws of WindowSlaws Productions and directed by band member Al Clayton.
Their April/May 2008 tour of Germany and Austria was the subject of a ten-part documentary series entitled Chopz on Tour.
The Indelicates spent a month in Berlin in the late summer of 2009 recording a second album, entitled "Songs for Swinging Lovers
". It was initially released exclusively via the Corporate Records site (corporaterecords.co.uk) from 12 April 2010. A physical release followed in June 2010. In an what Simon called a "ludicrous quest to bolster our album release by making videos for ever track on 'Songs for Swinging Lovers'," the Indelicates released official videos for five of the eleven songs on the album.
The Corporate Records website has a unique marketing philosophy: the listener can blog

or otherwise share individual tracks, or the whole album, with single static links that take your readers directly to a download page where the song or album is available on a 'pay-what-you-like' basis using the share code and social networking buttons provided. The website allows other artists to sign up and share their music on a similar basis, and as of July 2010, 53 artists have done so, including established acts such as DeathBoy
