The Last Kinection are an Indigenous hip-hop group from Newcastle, New South Wales
.They were formed in 2006 Joel Wenitong and DJ Jay Tee from Local Knowledge
and Naomi Wenitong
from Shakaya
. They first came to attention with their reworking of the Peter Allen
tune "I Still Call Australia Home
". In September 2008 the band were involved in a car accident with Naomi Wenitong and DJ Jay Tee receiving serious injuries. Naomi had a broken femur, jaw, wrist, ribs, fractured pelvis, head injuries and was left in a coma. The accident was featured in an episode of the Crash Investigation Unit
TV series.
Their return to the stage was in 2009 to support Public Enemy. They followed this up with a national tour beginning in July. They won a Deadly
in 2009 for outstanding achievement in R 'n' B and hip hop.
In June 2010 The Last Kinection were officially signed to Independent, Sydney record label Elefant Traks
