The Lesser Evil is a dark thriller that was released by MGM in 1998. The story involves four old friends, Derek (Colm Feore), George (David Paymer), Ivan (Arliss Howard), and Frank (Tony Goldwyn) who reunite when they become suspects in a double murder. The murders took place twenty years ago and the men covered it up and went on with their lives. The four friends are all successful professionals with seemingly normal lives, but they all carry a dark secret. The plot unfolds like a mystery, weaving back and forth between the four men in present day and their teenage selves twenty years ago. The teenage boys are played by Adam Scottt, Marc Worden, Jonathan Scarfe, and Steven Petrarca. As the police investigation tightens around the four men they turn on each other. Soon it becomes clear that one of the men will have to take the fall or they all will go down for the crimes. It is a taught noir film whose intricate plot keeps you guessing until its surprising and twisted ending.
