. It is a very brief piece, but bears importance because it illustrates Kafka's view on lawyers. A firm has hired a new associate, Bucephalos. The narrator realizes that times have changed, but hopes people will hold forth any judgement, and accept this new associate for who he is, and what he is capable of.

Analysis

At least one analysis has shown this story and Kafka's letters illustrate his distaste for the law profession and the often menial tasks that can make workers subject to narrow-mindedness.
