Encyclopedia
The Perth Regiment was an infantry
regiment
of the Canadian Army. Originally founded in 1866 as the 28th Perth Battalion of Infantry the regiment went through several name changes including: 1900 - 28th Perth Regiment; 1920 - The Perth Regiment; 1936 - The Perth Regiment (M.G.); 1941 - The Perth Regiment (Motor); and returned to its present title in 1946. In 1954, as a result of the Kennedy Report on the Reserve Army, this regiment was amalgamated with the Highland Light Infantry of Canada
to form The Perth and Waterloo Regiment (Highland Light Infantry of Canada). This was not a successful amalgamation and in 1957 the two units reverted to their former designations. On 28 February 1965, the Perth Regiment was reduced to nil strength and placed on the Supplementary Order of Battle.
The Perth Regiment was allied to the Cameronians, the Otago Regiment of New Zealand, 26th Battalion
of Australia, and the Witwatersrand Rifles of South Africa. They were kitted with a green glengarry c/w green & white diced border, grey sporran with three black points, Douglas hose, and green garter flashes. The Regiment perpetuated the 110th Battalion C.E.F and held its final Order of Precedence as 16.
