They work closely with federal, state, and local regulators to ensure safety and compliance in the handling, processing, treating, transporting, and disposal of these wastes.
On March 6, 2008, the Shaw Group was awarded a contract by the Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment AFCEE)."Shaw has supported AFCEE for more than 15 years by providing a complete range of traditional and environmental design and construction services worldwide," said Ronald W. Oakley, president of Shaw's Environmental & Infrastructure Group.

In 2010 Shaw was ordered by The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to improve the way it responds to safety complaints from employees, following the firing of an employee who felt substandard protective paint coatings were being applied to critical parts of a nuclear plant's cooling systems.

Hurricane Katrina contracts

After Katrina hit, the Shaw group hired the former head of the Projects and Contracting Office in Baghdad, Charles Hess, who also had experience working at FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers. Shaw was also one of several companies who won contracts from FEMA who are represented by former FEMA head, Joe Allbaugh.
As part of Shaw's work providing 24,000 FEMA trailers, the company was cited after explosions for failing to follow proper safety standards.
