The Society of British Interior Design (SBID) based in London
is a professional body
for design professionals in practice, education and manufacture.
Founded in 2009 to establish and secure the trained design profession as a standard bearer organisation, it connects professionals with the public to provide assurance of quality by recognition of training and standards. It promotes the sole route to a career in an interior design
practice through a degree and works with leading universities in the United Kingdom. Interior Designers and Interior Decorators have been defined in an agreement with the National Council of Interior Design Qualification NCIDQ
Professional Members with four years recognised education and a Degree plus two years work experience are entitled to use the SBID accreditation. Other member categories are not. The established Code of Conduct and Ethics is shared with sixteen Countries across Europe through membership with the European Council of Interior Architects (ECIA) The membership organisation has 1,500 members with a universal network of 50,000 professionals.
The Executive Board consists of Vanessa Brady, a practicing Interior Designer, Owen Luder

The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors RICS and Chartered Institute of Building
(CIOB) are among over thirty recognised organisations collaborating to develop the industry in collaborative programmes of research and development, science and engineering.
SBID launched the International Design Awards to promote design disciplines and design skills around the world the inaugural to be held in Paris
in September 2011 at Maison & Objet.
SBID lobbies government to protect and promote the design industry for legislation change in Britain and campaigns on sustainability
