The Spektors were an Australia
n rock 'n' roll band active in Perth, Western Australia
in 1966, best known for their drummer and part-time lead singer, Bon Scott
, who later went on to great success as lead vocalist with AC/DC
.
The band was formed in 1966 by singer John Collins and Bon Scott, who at that time just played drums, along with Brian Gannon (bass guitar
) and Wyn Milson (guitar
). They enjoyed some local success winning the "Perth Hoadleys Battle of the Bands" competition, playing popular songs of the time, often by The Rolling Stones
and The Beatles
. As the band developed, Scott would step up and sing occasionally while Collins played drums, on songs such as a cover of Van Morrison
's "Gloria".
In late 1966, Milson and Scott decided to join forces with local rivals The Winstons, and form a new group, The Valentines
, with Scott sharing vocal duties with Winstons' vocalist Vince Lovegrove
.
These songs and interviews were pirated from the TVW channel 7 show "Club 17" by Martin Clark, who was the recording engineer at the time.
