Jeremy Wheale's brother is murdered by a mob hit man. Involved in the tragedy is a family heirloom, a sixteenth century gold tray. In confronting this situation, Wheale goes from Devon, England to Mexico and finally to the tropical rain forests of the Yucatan Pennisula. Wheale joins with two archelogists to locate the rest of a legendary horde of gold. This hoard comes from Uaxuanoc, the centuries-old lost city of the Mayas.

Unfortunately, the Mafia are on the trail of Wheale and so are the Chicleros, a deadly group of convict mercernaries. And Wheale can't even trust his two archeologist friends.
