The Warm Up is the second official mixtape from Fayetteville, North Carolina
rapper J. Cole. All of the songs, except for three ("Dreams", "Ladies" and "The Badness"), are featureless. Other popular songs on the mixtape are "Can I Live", and "Grown Simba". J. Cole also raps over the instrumentals of the songs "Dead Presidents" by Jay-Z
, "Last Call" by Kanye West
and "Get By" by Talib Kweli
. J. Cole and The R.E.C also produced the majority of the mixtape with help from Elite, Syience
, and E.k.n.
J. Cole was famously signed to Roc Nation after Jay-Z heard the track "Lights Please" before the mixtape was released. In August 2010 J. Cole, was awarded the UMA Male Artist of the Year thanks to his heralded The Warm Up mixtape.
