The World's Strictest Parents
Encyclopedia
The World's Strictest Parents (or World's Strictest Parents) is a television series developed by TwentyTwenty Television, originally broadcast in Britain by the BBC
. America's CMT
(part of MTV Networks
) and Australia's Channel Seven
have both created localised versions of the programme, with the CMT episodes frequently rebroadcasting on MTV
. There is also a German version called "Die strengsten Eltern der Welt" (The strictest Parents of the World).
The concept is that two so-called "unruly" teenagers are sent to live abroad with a strict host family for a week in an attempt to change their behaviour. During the week they receive an impact letter from their real parents with a list of issues they should try to fix.
Generally they spend 10 days with their adopted parents trying to live within their rules.
Three
on the 11th October 2010, the show returned for a 11 episode run. Whilst not formally announced, it appears the teens now spend a week with their adopted families rather than the 10 days in the two previous series.
Each episode aired at 9:00pm on BBC
Three
and is repeated at various times over the following week.
Unlike the original series, the teenagers remained in their own country and another difference was that their own parents came for them and evaluated the stay with the host family. This was likely due to various federal laws and cost effectiveness reasons.
also created their own series of The World's Strictest Parents, hosted by singer and actor Axle Whitehead
. It debuted in Australia on 22 July 2009. However, a sneak peek was shown on 24 June 2009 and was the top watched show of the week, with 1.875 million people tuning in. Whitehead's song Way Home was featured in the advertisements. The show is classified PG.
A second season went to air on July 14, 2010, with two British episodes featuring Whitehead's narration. The third episode is notable for Christian getting drunk late at night and then he is heard the following morning yelling: "GET OUT OF MY FACE!".
As of Thursday, September 9, 2010, the show was moved to Thursday nights at 8:30pm but attaining the PG rating. Due to The Amazing Race commencing on Thursday, September 30, 2010, the show was again moved to 7Two
airing on Sunday nights at 8:30pm.
Repeats are currently airing on 7Two and Seven at random times throughout its schedule.
Season 3 premiered on 10 August 2011, however after just three episodes it was forced to make way for the four night premiere of the third season of The X Factor
, which started on Monday 29 August. Season 3 resumed on 21 September 2011 at 7:30pm, one night after the first elimination of The X Factor. The next episode, due to go to air on Wednesday 28 September, aired at the later time of 8:30pm due to The X Factor being bumped back one night due to Seven's broadcast of the 2011 Brownlow Medal
.
Due to poor ratings, no new episodes have been commissioned by the Seven Network
.
Six weeks after the end of the show, Jono was arrested after a night of heavy drinking.
