He exhibited his first picture, 'Alnaschar, the Barber's fifth Brother,' at the Royal Academy in 1842. Five years later he went to Egypt

, and painted portraits of himself and his family. Brigstocke spent sixteen months painting, mainly, at the Palace of Shoubra, on the Nile, near Cairo, and at Ras el Tin, Alexandria.

Between 1843-65 Brigstocke exhibited 16 works at the Royal Academy and two at the British Institution

Brigstocke died, suddenly on 11th March 1881, aged seventy-two, and was buried at Kensal Green cemetery

He also wrote a drama entitled "The mutual scourges, or France and her neighbours. An historical drama in four acts" (1871).
