Sir Thomas Cartwright was a British diplomat who served in Germany, Belgium and Sweden.
Cartwright was the son of William Ralph Cartwright
, M.P. for Northamptonshire
and his wife Hon. Emma Mary Hawarden. He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford
. From 1821 to 1829 he was secretary of legation in Munich
and was then on a special mission in Belgium. From 1830 to 1838 he was minister plenipotentiary to the German Confederation in Frankfurt
. He was knighted as a Knight Grand Cross, Hanoverian Order in 1834. From 1838 to 1850 he was envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary in Stockholm
where he died.
Cartwright married Graefin Maria Elizabeth Augusta von Sandizell in 1825. Their son William Cornwallis Cartwright
was later MP for Oxfordshire
