The ThunderRidge football team has competed in 4A football until the 2007 season, but now competes in a 5A schedule. The team rarely misses the playoffs, and the Grizzlies went to the State Semi-Finals 5 years in a row under Coach Joe Johnson, 2001-2005 going 3-2, with a 3-0 record in state championship games. The most notable recent seasons are 2004 when the Grizzlies went 12-2 and won the state championship. In 2005 with 19 returning starters on offense and defense the Grizzlies went 14-0 and beat Grand Junction High School at the first ever State Championship game played at Invesco Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado and was named the number one team in the state.
