. It consists of 187 rooms and includes a junior common room, a TV room, games room, library and senior common room. Thwaite Hall has 24 acres (97,124.6 m²) of beautiful grounds. There is a warden, Dr David Sands, and a deputy warden.

Students are encouraged to participate in a wide variety of activities organized by the JCR, [Junior Common Room council]. These include dances, sporting events and the traditional "Freshers' Week" events.

Thwaite Hall traditionally has 3 black tie events each year; the Thwaite Ball (November), the Warden's Christmas Dinner (December), and the Easter Ball.

There is a long-standing rivalry between the residents of Thwaite Hall and Needler Hall

The Hall was constructed in two stages, in 1937 and 1947, on to an old 18th century house, which was for the mistress of a wealthy Russian and passed to a Hull merchant family who later sold it and its grounds to the university which built the extra wings.

During WWII the hall was home to US servicemen with Free French and Polish forces living in nearby houses.
