Tiapride is a benzamide derivative with dopamine antagonist
actions similar to sulpiride
. It has been used as an antipsychotic and in the treatment of various movement disorders and alcoholism.
Although it is considered as a "safe" medicine, it is, like sulpiride, strictly unrecommended to patients below 18, because of the effects it causes while the process of puberty goes on. It also has insufficient clinical data on the other side effects on adolescents.
