With a view that emerging and developing economies will continue to outpace the economic growth and advancement of developed economies, Seymour has devoted his career to investing in the dominant markets of tomorrow, today. Seymour’s career has included significant experience in both alternative asset management (hedge funds) and capital markets, launching two hedge funds and building the largest Russian broker dealer in the United States.
Seymour has worked and invested through defining global market events such as the Euro convergence, the Asian/Russian financial crisis of ’97-’98, and the subsequent re-rating of the EM asset class. Through these experiences, Seymour has forged a balanced view of the top down and bottom up factors that have driven these markets historically, and where growth will be found in the next decade.
Prior to starting his hedge fund, Seymour founded and was a managing partner at Red Star Asset Management, which managed a long/short hedge fund investing in Eastern Europe and Russia. At its inception, Red Star was one of the first hedge funds to operate in the region, focusing on capital preservation, and low volatility via traditional alternative asset class strategies. At Red Star, Seymour served as the chief operating officer, portfolio manager, and was a member of the investment committee.
Prior to founding Red Star, Seymour was a partner and managing director at Troika Dialog, Russia’s largest investment bank. Seymour moved to Moscow in 1998 as head of fixed income for Troika Dialog and was later appointed global head of sales for all products. In January 2000, Seymour moved from Moscow to New York to found Troika Dialog USA, a full-service NASD/SEC regulated brokerage firm and subsidiary of Troika Dialog Group. At the time of his departure, Troika Dialog USA was the largest Russian brokerage operating in the US in terms of total volume turnover in equity, fixed income and derivative products.
Seymour started his career at UBS in New York, focusing on international credit (cash, swaps, forex) in a specialized hedge fund group. Seymour completed the firm’s training program after graduating with an MBA in international finance from Fordham University. Seymour received his undergraduate degree at Georgetown University.
