The district is composed of five schools: four were elementary schools and one middle school, where two of the district's elementary schools lay outside Tinley Park boundaries. District students living in Tinley Park may attend Memorial Elementary School, which is directed by principal Bethany Wilson. As of 2008, the district's other Tinley Park elementary schools were being consolidated in a new building; Helen Sandidge Elementary School and Fulton Elementary School are the schools that are subject to the project. The Tinley Park elementary schools encompass grades one through five; Memorial Elementary School includes a prekindergarten program as well. Students in the nearby city of Oak Forest
attend Walter Fierke Education Center, which covers grades one through five, kindergarten, and prekindergarten under principal Mark French. Alternatively, the district's Orland Park
prekindergarteners, kindergarteners, and first through fifth graders attend Arnold Kruse Education Center, which is headed by principal Carey Radde. Graduates of all elementary schools progress to Central Middle School in Tinley Park, which is headed by principal Debra Brennan. The superintendent of District 146 is Dr. Jeff Stawick.
