. The population was 610 at the 2000 census. The name is a native American word meaning "waters meet."

There were 260 households out of which 24.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.7% were married couples
living together, 6.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.5% were non-families. 23.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.73.
In the township the population was spread out with 19.5% under the age of 18, 4.3% from 18 to 24, 23.8% from 25 to 44, 31.0% from 45 to 64, and 21.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 47 years. For every 100 females there were 106.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.6 males.
