Originally built in 1979 in a Soviet-era architectural style and named Hotel Tirana, it is now one of Albania's most prestigious hotels with a noted Conference Centre and with two floors devoted to executive suites. In 2001, the hotel was renovated by an Italian company and now it is a 4-star Hotel.

The Tirana International has 166 rooms and is 15 floors high.
