Tobis Portuguesa

Tobis Portuguesa was created on June 3rd 1932, in order to support and foster the development of Portuguese cinema, goal that kept during its 75 years of activity.
In 1955, the company merged with Lisboa Filme, - one of the country’s main film producers. The rights to these films were thus acquired by Tobis and included within the company’s film catalogue.
From 2004 on, Tobis enlarged its spectrum of activities as it has invested in the acquisition of digital video transcription equipment, using restoration tools.
In 2005, Tobis acquired the share capital of Concept Films and benefited from its equipments and technicians. Moreover, it has made significant investments in innovative equipment items that enabled a wide array of image and sound postproduction operations to be carried out.
History
Tobis originally focused its activity on film production and lab processing. In the meantime Tobis produced some of the most emblematic works of the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, such as A Canção de Lisboa.In 1955, the company merged with Lisboa Filme, - one of the country’s main film producers. Services and Facilities
Nowadays Tobis provides a wide range of services and facilities that can be identified in four main areas:- FILMLAB: core area of laboratory services that has maintained operations since the creation of Tobis Portuguesa and that has professionals and equipment suitable for film processing, negative cutting, film-based special effects and titles, safety and duplication copies (interpositives and internegatives), optical blowups, colour grading and printing of copies;
- DIGITAL: sector that provides services in sound and image postproduction and that also performs a multiplicity of processes therein, whereby it is possible to incorporate different media and recording formats within the design of the final product required by the client;
- ARCHIVES: area that provides services of digital video transcription using restoration tools;
- STUDIO: studio rental for advertising, television and cinema productions with a vast range of complementary facilities.
