History

Tradition holds that Tokorozawa Shimei Shrine was founded in the year 110 A. D. by Yamatotakeru no mikoto during his conquest of eastern Japan. Three Shinto gods are enshrined: Amaterasu Ohmikami, Ukanomitama-no-mikoto, and Ōmono-nushi-no-kami.
