The
Townsville Post Office (Former) is a building in Townsville CBD.
World War II
During the war, after the first raid on Townsville, the defence department became concerned that the clock tower would become a target for Japanese bombers after the post office clock in Darwin was bombed.
After World War II
In 1969 a second Clock Tower was erected and since then has been closed to the public because it has never been tested in terms of structural integrity. The government sold the building in the late 1990s and the current owners undertook some major work to turn it into a brewery for the Townsville Brewering Co.
