The Corona EXiV was an automobile by Toyota Motor Company. Released in 1989, it was the sporty Toyota Corona
and a sister car to Toyota Carina ED
. EXiV stood for EXtra impressiVe.
Now this might be very confusing, as to the purpose of this model. As it may seem like there is already a sport version of a Corona, called the Carina. The first generation Celica was based on the Corona Coupe. The Carina
is based on the Celica, but had an option for 4 doors. So the EXiV's had a luxurious, hardtop design, compared to the regular Corona Sedan. The Corona EXiV is the sister car, using the same platform as the Carina ED. The hardtop approach was also used on the yet smaller Corolla/Sprinter platform, called the Corolla Ceres and the Sprinter Marino
; these cars were offered for consumers who wanted the luxurious approach offered by the Toyota Crown
hardtop and sedan, as well as the Mark II
