The song was recorded in a live format rather than layer recording, although the harmonica solo in the latter half of the song was probably recorded at a later stage. The live recording technique can be considerably more difficult as all band members must perform each of their respective parts perfectly in a take. If an error is made the band has to start the take over from the beginning. It is reported that 'Train of Consequences' took 42 takes to nail the song as it is heard on Youthanasia
