The Treasure Valuation Committee (TVC) is an independent body based in London, which offers expert advice to the government on items of declared treasure finds in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland that museums may wish to acquire from the Crown. Finds which are found in the United Kingdom, such as the Vale of York Hoard, are valued by the Treasure Valuation Committee.

Its terms of reference as laid down in the Treasure Act 1996 code of Practice.

Members

• The Chairman, Professor Norman Palmer - appointed as chair in 2001 and has been a member since 1997
• Trevor Austin - first appointed to the committee in 2003 he was reappointed in 2009, General Secretary of the National Council for Metal Detecting
• Dr. Jack Ogden - an expert on ancient metallurgy, who has first-hand experience of the antiquities market, reappointed to the committee in 2001
• Dr David Dykes - Appointed in November 2010 is an Expert in medieval coinage and a former Director of the National Museum of Wales from 1986-9.

In September 2010, the Department for Culture Media and Sport advertised to fill the role of Medieval and Post-Medieval Coin Expert on the Treasure Valuation Committee (held by May Sinclair). The successful applicant was Dr David Dykes.

In January 2011, the Department for Culture Media and Sport advertised to fill the role of Chair of the Treasure Valuation Committee (held by Professor Norman Palmer since 2001). As of 10 May 2011 the successful candidate had not been publicly announced.
