The Trench Cup is the second tier Gaelic football
competition for third level education colleges and universities in Ireland
and England
.
The current champions are St. Patrick's College, Dublin after they narrowly defeated Mary Immaculate College Limerick,0-12 to 0-7.
The competition first game into existence in the 1974/75 season, with Dundalk RTC emerging as the inaugural winners. Sligo RTC have won the Trench Cup the most times, a total of five which were won in 1981, 1985, 1986, 1990, 1991.
The Trench Cup is to be held in Cork IT for 2009. This year's semi-finals are a repeat of last years with current holders Mary Immaculate College, Limerick to face John Moore's College, Liverpool in one semi-final, while the other is an all Dublin affair with Trinity College, Dublin facing St. Patrick's.
