The Triarius is an enormous Swamp Gum
(Eucalyptus regnans F.Muell.) in southern Tasmania
, Australia
. The tree is 86.5 metres tall, its diameter is 3.90 metres, volume of the trunk is 219 cubic metres.
Discovered in August 2008 by employees of Forestry Tasmania while analysing the data collected by LiDAR
system used in mapping and assessment of state forest resources.
The tree was discovered that late because it is located in secondary forest
and survived logging and forest fires by lucky coincidence. Next to the Triarius, south-east from it there grows the highest known eucalypt in the world - the 99.6 metres tall Swamp Gum named Centurion
