Trikala is a town in the eastern part of Imathia between the boundaries of Thessaloniki
and Pieria prefectures that are about 4 to 5 km away. The town (whose 2001 census population was 1,170) is in the municipal unit of Platy
and sits between the Aliakmon and the Loudias rivers. Trikala is linked with the road linking with Koryfi
and the Via Egnatia
along with the old road that is the GR-4
(Thessaloniki - Veria - Kozani
). It is located west-southwest of Thessaloniki

Trikala was one of the cities on August 6, 2007 that recorded the heaviest daily rainfall that amounted to about 100 to 120 mm in a single day. Several properties were flooded and some residents were stranded.
