History

Although the railway through Trimley opened on May 1, 1877 it was not until May 1, 1891 that the station at Trimley was opened. Initially services ran between Ipswich and Felixstowe Pier. Once Felixstowe Town opened in 1898 trains ran there and direct services to Beach and Pier stations were discontinued.

In 2009 Network Rail were planning to demolish the station building but determined local opposition has seen a stay of execution (as at August 2010). It is hoped that the building will find some community use.

In October 2010 Suffolk Coastal Council carried out a local residents survey to try to ascertain local support for the station project and to see whether a business plan could be formulated. The results are available at the web address below. By November 2011 no use had been found for the deteriorating structure although it was announced that Network Rail has reprieved the station for a further three months.
