Tuaca is a brand of liqueur
originally produced by the Tuoni and Canepa families of Livorno
, Italy
, and now produced by the Tuaca Liqueur Company of Louisville, Kentucky. The liqueur is sweet and golden brown in color. Its ingredients include brandy
, essence of orange
, and vanilla
. Vanilla is the dominant flavor. It is bottled at 70 proof (35% ABV
).
The recipe supposedly dates back to the Renaissance
. A legend claims that it was created for Lorenzo the Magnificent.
Tuaca has been sold in the United States
since the 1950s and can be bought in most liquor stores there.
31st March 2010, marked the closure of Livorno’s historic Tuaca plant. The end of an era for a company founded in 1938. Up to now Tuaca has been “a unique Italian liqueur with hints of vanilla and natural citrus essences, crafted in the coastal town of Livorno, Italy”. American ingredients just dont compare resulting in a harsher beverage
. It may also be mixed with ginger ale, cola, or hot apple cider.
Tuaca Lemon Drop (1.5 oz Tuaca, .5 oz Triple Sec
