Tupi is a 1st class municipality in the province of South Cotabato. According to the 2007 census, it has a population of 57,779 people in 11,049 households. Nestling at the foot of a dormant volcano, Mt. Matutum, Tupi is considered as the fruit, vegetable and flower basket of South Cotabato.

History
Tupi derived from the word "Tufi" which a vine chewed by native B'laan tribes who first inhabited the land. Tufi is abundant in vast forest with a refreshing taste.As it lies in the dormant foot of Mt. Matutum, the fertile soil of volcanic ash offered the offered a great enticement to speculators and investors particularly in the field of agriculture.
In 1936 during the commonwealth government President, Manuel L. Quezon appointed Major General Paulino Santos as General Manager for the development of Koronadal and the vast land in the Allah Valey. Settlers from Luzon and Visayas starting to arrive transforming the once a forest into a flourishing area of agriculture.

Commerce, Trade and Industry
Tupi's climate and soil type makes it suitable to all types of crop and livestock production. Presently, Tupi aside from pineapple, tropical fruits and vegetables is identified as suited for high-value commercial crops (HVCC) like asparagus and papaya. Cutflower production is one crop that is presently putting Tupi in the Regional Map. In the case of poultry production, Tupi is likewise identified as one of the areas in the province as suited for said venture. Tupi, which is basically an agricultural municipality, devotes 19% of its total land area to agricultural production. The major products are pineapple, papaya, asparagus, fruits, vegetables, corn, coffee, bananas, cutflowers, other High Value Commercial Crops, Wood products and processed Food.
The exports products are pineapple, asparagus, bottled fruit preserves and Bongolan Banana.
The existing major business establishments are Pogressive Farms, Kablon Farms, Stanfilco Dole Philippines, Blooming Petals, Inc., Central Universal Corporation and other Large ScaleLivestock and Poultry Raisers distributed all over the Municipality.
Communication

- Linan Hotspring, Waterfalls and Campsite located within the Matutum forest reserved area. The hot springs which emits sulfuric hot water is believed to be medicinal. The area is strictly being conserved by DENR to protect the remaining forest cover within the vicinity. It is declared part of the Protected Landscpe of Mt. Matutum under the NIPAS Law.
- Acmonan Hotspring and Waterfall located at the foot of Mount Matutum. The Hot Springs and Waterfalls are just adjacent to each other.
- Filipino-Japanese and Memorial Shrine located at Norona Hillside constructed with the assistance of the Manzo Hango, a member of the Japanese Imperial Army assigned in Tupi during World War II.
- Lunen Waterfalls although not far with Linan and Acmonan Falls, the isle is considered as a potential tourist attraction.
- Municipal Hall and Plaza. It is unique architecture and design is an attraction to passers by. Strategically located in the heart of the Municipality.
- Tupi Fruit Stands located along the National Highway. Tupi is considered the fruit bowl of the Province. Owing to the potential fruit stands are visible along the highways where tropical fruits are for sale. It is so accessible because it is located along the Maharlika Highway where buyers can easily park their vehicles.
- Cave although no intensive exploration had been done, caves are present in Kablon, Linan, Miasong and Polonuling.
- Miasong Vegetable Plantation located in Barangay Miasong and Vegetable bowl of the municipality. Large scale producer of potatoes, cabbage, carrots, asparagus,yacun, bell paper, "chicharo" and others.
- SMIARC Research Center. Established before the war which then serves as a rubber nursery. It now serves as a farmers training center and agricultural research.
- Tropifresh Plant located in Barangay Cr. Rubber, it serves as a research center for asparagus and papaya production.
- Tablao, Linan Pilgrimage Site located in Linan, it is frequented by visitors particularly during the Holy Week.
Festival
- Kasadyahan Festival, "Sagana Sayaw sa Kadalanan-Kasadyahan"
Celebration featuring street dancing competition coined from Visayan word "Kasadya". It is a convergence of various ethnic and cultural dances featuring Tupi as the province's flower, fruit and vegetable basket and a town where various cultures abode. Held every September 11 in celebration of the town's foundation anniversary.
- Linggo ng Matutum.
A weeklong festivity every March 13-20 of each year in celebration of the declaration of Mt. Matutum as protected Landscape: highlighting "Amyak Maleh", a climb and plant mountaineering activities and the Mindanao wide "Amyak Maleh Mt Matutum Bike Challenge".
- Kariton Festival
Annual parade of animal drawn carts (kariton) bedecked with vegetables, fruits and flowers. Held every December and is being sponsored by the barangay Poblacion.
