Twin Skies is a Massively multiplayer online game
created by Meteor Games
, founded by Adam Powell and Donna Powell, creators of Neopets
. Twin Skies was Meteor Games' first gaming project. It was originally planned to enter beta testing in late 2008, with a projected full launch in 2009. According to a statement from Adam Powell, the game "aims to change the way gamers of all ages play and socialize in MMOs." The game will be a fantasy-based MMO, with dark fantasy influences such as Labyrinth
, Dark Crystal, and James and the Giant Peach
. On January 1, 2009, Adam Powell announced that development of the 3D MMO was going to be stopped for the time being due to the economy, and development would begin on both a new 2D version of Twin Skies set in an earlier time as well as a new virtual pet site. At this time, players can continue to sign up for an account, choose a character name, and participate in several activities on the site, such as chatting on the forum and playing several flash mini-games on the website. As of May 1, 2009, The site has been replaced with a coming soon image.
The game was to be powered by BigWorld
, which provides a virtual world engine.
Twin Skies was planned to feature PVP
and PVE
combat as well as exploratory activities including creature taming, dancing, and painting. Another unique feature planned for Twin Skies was that the player can play numerous Flash Games, and beating these games will unlock bonus rewards that can be “cashed in” on the MMO game. For example, you can summon monsters, or even rain fire from the sky.
When the actual 3D game is released, there will be several races and classes of characters to play as. Your character will also have a pet to care for. There will be some realistic pets (e.g. kittens, puppies, and piglets) and some imaginary ones (e.g. Birp and Salabounders). After your character is chosen, you will be able to explore an entire world. There will be NPC characters and many monsters and beasts. There will be many areas to explore, each with their own characteristics and places to visit. These features are all currently in progress of creation, though, and can change at any time.
Currently, there are several mini games to play. They include "Witchery 101", "Legends of Laundry", and "Om Nom Nom". Players earn Meteorites, the Twin Skies currency, after playing mini games. There is currently no use for the Meteorites except for using them to bet on a game that resembles the slot machine
. There are also achievements that can be meet, and once done, award the player a badge.
in 2008 held from August 29-31, Salabounder plush toys (a creature from Twin Skies) were given out.
