. The derby is more of a regional derby between these two clubs who have played each other more often over the last ten years than both these clubs have played their nearest rivals Sunderland. Both Newcastle and Middlesbrough fans see Sunderland as their biggest derby however lately these two clubs have been contesting against each other to be the most successful North-East team and this has helped the rivalry grow.
