The site itself owes it layout to the original GWR arrangements, having been laid out to their standard design, the roundhouse closest to the carriage sidings remained in use longest and so formed the site used by Tyseley Locomotive Works as a preservation location. It also used to be a scrapyard for BR Class 301 in 2004/05.
