U.S. Defense Department firefighters
Encyclopedia
The U.S. Department of Defense employs firefighters who are civilians, but who are stationed at military bases to work as firefighters. These personnel have their own uniforms and equipment, but are not considered to be members of any military unit. They will work alongside military units if need be, but often bear sole responsibility for firefighting responsibilities at the military facility. They have their own uniforms, usually a dark blue suit with a badge and with a shoulder patch indicating their firefighting organization.

Various certifications exist for personnel in this organization. one major certification is referred to as "DoD Fire & Emergency Services Training."
