The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) taekwondo
tournament is before held in the second semester. But however due to the conflict in volleyball TV coverage, it now has been moved to first semester.

The University of Santo Tomas
went on to win the silver medal in the National Inter-University Championships, losing the gold medal in a closely contested finals game against the Philippine Military Academy 3 - 2. The Philippine Military Academy at that time just competed in the CISM World Military Taekwondo Championships, winning 2 silver medals and 1 bronze medal, ranking number 4 in the world.

The first UAAP Taekwondo Tournament was held during the 1987 - 1988 season, with the UST team sweeping the tournament with 6 - 0 win-loss card. National University did not field a team during the first tournament.Rank | University |
