The UK Jewish Film Festival was first held in Brighton

 in 1997, and became a national film festival in 2003. The first President of the UKJFF was Sir Sydney Samuelson

, who remained in that role until 2005, and as of 2010 is currently the UKJFF Honorary Lifetime Patron.
