Attempting to make it as the industry-standard slim, "elfin beauty," she is shocked to find that, in a few days' time, she has grown inches taller, rapidly acquired the muscle mass and physique of the average female bodybuilder, and even more shockingly discovers via a violent encounter that this physical transformation comes with accompanying superpowers.
It was after a failed modeling audition, that Suzy was suddenly attacked by a Sentinel
, a left-over minion from Onslaught
's assault on humanity. The Sentinel implies that Suzy is actually a mutant Kree
warrior, though her exact origins are still unclear today. Reporters who see the fight between Suzy and the Sentinel run to interview her. During the interview she keeps using the term "Ultra," leading the press to dub her "Ultra Girl". Suzy begins to receive endorsements and deduces that being Ultra Girl is her ticket to stardom, so she and her friends design a costume from sports apparel she has received from past modeling jobs.
One of Suzy's friends, Amber, tries to convince her to abandon the superhero idea, but Ultra Girl is set on it, even fighting against the villain, Effex, alongside the New Warriors
. Together the Warriors and Ultra Girl defeat Effex.
After a mission with the Warriors, Ultra Girl learns that Amber is in fact "Ambra", a Kree agent sent to Earth to observe her; that her real name is Tsu-Zana; and several other locals in addition to Ambra are secretly Kree who expect her to serve as a Kree messiah. Ambra also informs Suzy that many of her friends (even her childhood doctor) are Kree. It is said in Kree
writings that Tsu-Zana is to be the Ultimate Unifier, and will eventually restore glory to the Kree Empire. They ask Suzy to abandon her superhero career, so as not to draw attention to the Kree but she refuses.
Some time later, Ultra Girl and Slapstick
join the New Warriors in stopping a Badoon invasion. Afterward both are made members of the Warriors.
now haunts Ultra Girl, as the Warriors are blamed for an explosion in Stamford which causes the death of hundreds of people, including children. Ultra Girl is one of the New Warriors whose civilian identities are publicly outed on an Anti-New Warriors website. Teaming with the remaining Warriors and She-Hulk
, they shut down the website and discover it is run by former Warrior, Hindsight
Ultra-Girl is a member of Captain America
's Secret Avengers in the Civil War among superheroes. She is seen among the heroes rescuing Captain America during Tony Stark
and Steve Rogers' private meeting attempting to settle their differences. After the end of the war, she decides to comply with the Superhuman Registration Act.

. This goes badly and the group has to be rescued by their associates, a covert black ops team. Ultra Girl and her friends are punished by having to restart training all over again.
She and Justice have start a romantic relationship. After the appearance of the new New Warriors, Ultra Girl was appointed as director of the Junior Guardsmen, a youth branch of the Initiative, akin to the JROTC program.
When the other former New Warriors decide to quit the Initiative, Ultra Girl instead returns to Camp Hammond to complete her training. With her Initiative training complete, she and Thor Girl
are assigned to Georgia, with Ultra Girl wearing a new costume: Carol Danvers' original Ms. Marvel
outfit, given to Suzy by Carol as a graduation present.

calls all the sleeper agents in the Initiative, causing Ultra Girl and Thor Girl to fight each other out of fear. When the Skrull Kill Krew
arrives to the scene, 3-D Man confirms that Thor Girl is a Skrull. The Skrull Thor Girl is killed with her own hammer. The real Thor Girl is later seen with all the people that had been replaced by the Skrulls.

attacks the Initiative, Justice and Counter Force (now calling themselves "New Warriors") arrive to stop them, and Ultra Girl, wearing her old costume, saves Justice from one of Ragnarok's deadly attacks. When Justice unearths the original MVP's body, wanting to give it a proper burial, Ultra Girl joins him and his team in leaving the Initiative.
Ultra Girl is arrested by agents of S.W.O.R.D.
