Student Involvement
The students at University strive to do the best they can within school, their community, and internationally. All sports and theater activities have a no-cut policy, which allow students to be involved and try new things. A strong majority of students participate in at least one of those programs, many of them in multiple. Community Service is a huge part of the culture, with many opportunities to get involved in. Lord's Pantry, Special Olympics, Dance Marathon, and School on Wheels are just a few of the many programs the students participate in. There are also a number of students who have studied abroad in Spain, France, and Mexico with Indiana University in an extensive language program.School Spirit
University has a large amount of school spirit. Mainly lead by Alex "Crash" Carson who has been at nearly every game cheering on the University Highschool Trailblazers. University High School has a number of cheers, including the school fight song.Daily Schedule
University High School's class schedule is unique, in that it is a mix of normal and block class scheduling. In a standard week, Monday is an "A" day, Tuesday a "B" day, Wednesday a "C" day, Thursday a "D" day, and Friday an "E" day. "A" days are standard days, when all classes meet. "B" days feature a doubly long block 1st and 5th Period, while there is no 2nd or 7th Period class. On "C" days, only four classes meet, 2nd, 3rd, and 6th Periods as doubles, plus 7th as a single period. "D" days feature double 4th and 7th Periods, without 3rd or 6th. "E" days are similar to "A" days, but "Morning Meetings" are extended from their usual 15 minutes to 55, thus cutting each class by 5 minutes. This 55 minute morning meeting is known as an "Assembly" and various speakers come to speak to the kids.Morning Meeting
Every morning between second and third periods, the entire school convenes in the cafeteria/auditorium, Andrews Hall, for a meeting where any student or faculty member can make announcements, followed most days by a presentation by either a student or faculty member. About once every week, almost exclusively on Fridays, Morning Meeting becomes an hour-long presentation, where an outside speaker comes in to discuss a topic for the entire hour. Past speakers have included roadies from Invisible ChildrenInvisible Children

Laptop Program
University High School features a one-to-one Macintosh laptop program where each student has their own laptop. This helps UHS students experience a unique educational opportunity while at school. Students use laptops as a way to create content for classes, as well as to communicate with faculty members and other students.Mentoring
Each student at UHS is paired with a faculty member with whom they meet once every two weeks for around a half an hour. Most student's mentor meet on a regular basis just to talk to the student about day-to-day things as well. Many times the student forms a bond with his or her mentor that can last beyond graduation and into college as well as adulthood. Mentors are great resources to students with study tips, their social life, or just someone to hang out with and feel comfortable talking with.College Counseling
As a college preparatory school, UHS has a college counseling program where each student gets four years of preparation. The small size of the school allows Jim Fadely, the college counseling director, to know and work with each student and his or her family to find the college that's best for him or her. Unlike other college preparatory schools, Dr. Fadely initiates the college counseling process at the beginning of freshman year, and encourages them to attend college fairs so as to immerse themselves into the decision process early. He is assisted by Ginny Leonard.Community Service

Size

The small class size also means lower teacher:student ratio. This allows the students to get the maximum education they can get out of all the teachers. The graduating classes are capped at 80 students per graduating class, and the largest class currently in the school is the Class of 2014, with 75 students currently in the school.
