History

The College of Engineering predates the current campus, having been founded in 1946 at the Navy Pier campus.

The college is recognized for its academic excellence with undergraduate and graduate programs in six academic departments. The College has 117 faculty members: one member of the National Academy of Engineering

Research programs in the college have grown rapidly over the years and are conducted in 6 departments and 7 interdisciplinary centers. During 2008-2009, the total research expenditure for the College of Engineering was more than $21 million.
