The University of the Philippines School of Economics is a degree-granting unit of the University of the Philippines Diliman (U.P.), the national university of the Republic of the Philippines. It is situated in U.P.'s flagship campus in Diliman, Quezon City
, where it is housed in the Philippine Center for Economic Development (PCED). The school offers Bachelor of Science (Economics
and Business Economics) degrees, Masters (Development Economics and Economics)as well as Doctor of Philosophy (Economics) degrees.
Founded in 1965, the School of Economics is the first and only CHED
Center for Excellence in Economics in the Philippines (since 1999). It is one of the few colleges in the Philippines that offer internationally-recognized Economics programs, which were designed and are implemented by highly-trained faculty, many of whom are considered the best in their field both in the Philippines and in Asia. It is also the only institution in the country that has an active, internationally-recognized Ph.D. program in Economics.
The School of Economics is known for producing graduates who are prominent in the fields of economics, business, education, and politics. Included in the list are deans and officials of the School of Economics, officers of the Philippine's largest companies, entrepreneurs, economics professors in the Philippines and abroad, officials of the National Economic and Development Authority, and a president of the Philippines
. It is also known for its selective admission, as well as its faculty, which include pioneers in the study of economics in the Philippines.
