History

The transit center was built in 2006 to provide an easy transfer location for AC Transit

 buses. Before it was built there were serious vehicular circulation issues. The location at Boradway and 19th Street is a downtown area subject to heavy congestion from private cars, cyclists, taxis and buses. It is co-located with the 19th Street / Oakland BART station.

In 2010 is was established as a "pulse" transfer point by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission for All nighter
