Uri Sagie was an Israeli general (retired) who held several prominent posts including command of the Golani Brigade
, of Israel's Northern Command, and the IDF Military Intelligence Directorate.
Uri Sagie was born in Kfar Bialik
to a family who had been living in Israel for several generations. He was a commander of a platoon in Battalion 51 during the Six Day War. He climbed the ranks of the IDF
and became commander of the Golani Brigade
. During the 1982 Lebanon War
he was in charge Operations Command within the IDF
's General Staff. In 1983 he was promoted to the rank of Aluf
and given charge of the Northern Command. In 1986 till 1991 he was in command of GOC Army Headquarters
, and in 1991-1995 he was in charge of the Military Intelligence Directorate. He resigned from the IDF in 1995 due to a conflict between him and the Chief of General Staff.
In 1996 he joined the Israeli Labor Party, but during the primaries that year failed to secure a place in the party's list for the upcoming elections. In December 1999, then, Prime Minister of Israel

put him in charge of negotiations with Syria
for a peace treaty. The negotiations failed as Syria refused to enter direct negotiations until Israel withdrew from the Golan Heights as a pre-condition. In 2000-2003 Uri Sagi was the CEO of Mekorot
