History

The founding of the College was in the year 1964. His Holiness 108 Goswami Shri Maharajshri Mathureshwarji laid the foundation stone for the building on 13 November 1963 at “Gokul Bagh”.The very next year degree courses in Physics and Economics were introduced.

The blessings of Lord Krishna and the benedictions of H.H. 108 Goswami Shri. Mathureshwarji Maharajshri had inspired the families of Shri Jamuna Doss and Shri. Purushotam Doss renowned Philanthropists to establish an educational institution for higher education in Chennai. They together with the kind - hearted Maheswaris and Agarwals of Rajasthan and Gujarat founded Shri Vallabhacharya Vidya Sabha in the year 1963, with the sole purpose of imparting value based education for all and for the linguistic minorities in particular.

The philanthropic zeal coupled with single-minded dedication evinced by the Management for the purpose of advancing knowledge and disseminating it, has helped the college emerge as one of the outstanding institutions of higher learning in Chennai. The history of the college is marked by the presence of illustrious principals ably assisted by dedicated teachers. Our students through their exemplary prowess have won laurels and accolades that have built the college to be what it is now. Today, it has grown to be one of the premier institutions of higher learning in the state.

Academics

The College now has 7 UG and 6 PG (Aided), 12 UG and 11 PG (Self-Supporting) programmes. Research Programmes such as M.Phil, (Commerce, Economics, Chemistry and Mathematics ) and Ph.D. (Commerce, Economics, Chemistry and Computers) has become part of the academic curriculum.

National Cadet Corps

The college is very famous for National Cadet Corps (NCC). The NCC has two wings Infantry (1 Tamil Nadu Battalion) and Armoured (1 Tamil Nadu Armoured Squadron). The college has represented Tamil Nadu contingent for Republic Day at New Delhi.The cadets of the college have won the prestigious award "All India Best Cadet" .The cadets of the college have also represented the nation as youth Ambassadors.
The CADOFEST conducted by Infantry is an inter-collegiate competition for NCC cadets. Cadets from different colleges from city will participate in the Fest. The Cadofest kept its 25th year feet on 2007.
The Armoured Squadron also conducts Bike Expedition on creating awareness on social issues.

  • Adhyapaka Ratna Shri Totadri Iyengar Gold Medal: instituted by Prof. Totadri Iyengar Commemoratios Committee for the best outgoing student of College.
  • Shri Babulal M.Metha Gold Medal: instituted by Shri Babulal M.Metha Charitable Trust for the best outgoing student of M.C.A.
  • Leo Club Gold Medal: instituted by Leo Club of Madras for the best outgoing student of M.Com.
  • Shri Sanjay Khetan Memorial Gold Medal: instituted by Shri M.L. Khitan for the best outgoing student of B.A (C.S).
  • Shri Chunilal Sundar Das Gold Medal: instituted by Shri C.Goverdhan Das for the best outgoing student of B.Sc.Physics.
  • Agarwal Foundation Gold Medal: instituted by D.J Agarwal Foundation, for the best outgoing student of B.Com.
  • Shri Vallabhacharya Gold Medal: instituted by Shri Vallabhacharya Vidhya Sabha, Madras, for the best outgoing student of B.Sc.Mathematics.


It is also given for the best outgoing B.B.A./M.Sc. (C.Sc.)/P.G.D.C.S./M.A (C.S)./M.B.A./B.Sc. (C.Sc)./B.B.M./M.Sc.IT/B.Sc.Biochemistry./B.L.M./M.A.Business Economics./M.Sc.Microbiology./M.Sc.Biochemistry and the student who gets the first mark in English or Tamil or Sanskrit or Hindi.
